What to do When Your Dog Gets Ticks and Hardstools

All those that keep pets, whether dogs or puppies, need to have a vet surgeon to turn to in an emergency. They do a lovely job, and you should not ignore a pet’s suffering. But it is a waste of money to go to the Vet’s surgery when the problem is one you can disentangle at home. This is a short overview to dealing with minor infirmities as a sort of Pets ‘ first aid. If the symptoms endure you can still contact the vet. Some dog breeds don’t love being handled : pitbull dogs and bull terriers for example.

This could be key part of dog obedience coaching so the dog accepts you are entitled to treat him for his own good. My dog, a Collie German Shepherd cross, gets twigs and sticks caught in round his rear and his fuzzy tail. Left undealt with, these may lead to the fur to mat around them. You can avoid this with 1 or 2 mins ‘ attention.

Ticks are unpleasant. They have an one-piece body and the harpoon-like mouth barbs stick to a host ( your dog ) for feeding. The home cure is straightforward and cheap gas jelly, which is what you would get if you went to a pet shop and paid for an exclusive tick remover! The most productive way to take away the tick is to put a great pile of gas jelly over the area where it has attached itself. Leave this for at least ten mins.

Once the tick’s grip loosens, you can wipe it out of the way with a tissue. Ear mites - if your pet has ear mites, then place two drops of corn oil into its ears ( an eye dropper will accomplish the job ), massage the ear softly then clean with a cotton ball. This may suffocate the mites. Regular ear washing with oil is advocated by vets, to avoid an accumulation of wax and irritations.

Hard stools - try this straightforward solution for a constipated pet.

For a big dog, add 3 to 4 spoons of mineral oil to its food. For a small dog cut back the dose to 1 to 2 little spoons. Do this for one or two days and the issue should clear up. The squite mix one heaped little spoon of carob powder with a little water and whisk into your dog’s dinner. Urinary tract infections mix 30-40ml of cranberry juice into your pet’s food. This can enhance the bitterness of its pee, reduce bacteria and help relieve the discomfort.

And if you are not sure what’s wrong say your pet appears ‘off color ‘ then here’s a tip we use all the time. Add half a softened aspirin or children’s liquid drug to your pet’s food.
