Teaching Your Children How To Swim
19/09/2010 by FeedCrazy.
I am a very proud father tonight as my son was today awarded his ten metre swimming badge. He is five years of age and has come a long way from the young boy who at one stage was so scared of water that he would not even take a bath. As soon as I put him into the bath he would jump out towards me like a frog and cling on to my body, shaking. I believe swimming is a very important skill that each child should learn as it is a skill that one day may just save their life.
I am not really sure as to why my son had such a dislike to water when he was a baby and toddler. Being from an Inner City water has never really played a big part in my life. Lets just say there are not any beaches in close proximity. Football was always my passion - swimming certainly not.
In an attempt to make my son start to see water in a more fun way I decided to take him to the local swimming baths. With the aid of the latest safety wear such as armbads and a specialised safety vest plus the fact that I told him I would always be there with him was my way of attempting to make him feel much more confident about the whole situation. I went as far as to suggest that Daddy was frightened of the water and requested for him to keep me safe. He seemed to like this idea.
The swimming baths themselves are like a fun pool as it has a number of slides, some big and some small. It also has a wave machine. To say my son loved every minute was an understatement and he insisted that we should return as soon as possible.
When he was four years of age he agreed to attend swimming lessons at another local swimming pool and a year on is doing so well it is untrue. He even swims a width where he is mainly underwater and has gained a knickname of shark boy by the swimming instructors.
I would advise more parents to help and encourage their young children to swim.

Buying Paintings: Synchromism
19/09/2010 by FeedCrazy.
Synchromism paintings feature harmoniously balanced colors and a feeling of movement. It is thought that synchromist paintings evoke similar feelings and sensations as music. This is a basic tenet of the synchromism art movement. As such, these paintings make wonderfully pleasing additions to any modern art collection.
Founded in 1912 by Morgan Russell and Stanton MacDonald-Wright, synchromism was an art movement based no the thought that sound and color are phenomena that are alike in the way that the person experiences and perceives them. Movement in addition to establishment of color into ‘color scales’ are the ways synchromism pieces correlate to musical art forms.
A fundamental tenet of synchromism is that color can be arranged or orchestrated in comparable way that notes of a symphony are arranged by composers. This harmonious arrangement of colors and shapes produces experiential results much in-line with that of hearing well balanced orchestral compositions.
Artists of the synchromism art movement thought that by painting in color scales could evoke sensations that were very musical in nature. Typically, synchromism pieces feature a powerful rhythmic form or forms that then advance toward complexity in form and hue, moving in a certain direction.
In a few cases, such explosion of color using color scales pours out in a radial pattern. It is most frequent for synchromism art works to have some kind of central vortex that bursts outward with color, into complex color harmonies.
The first painting to be dubbed a synchromism work, was Morgan Russell’s ‘Synchromy in Green’ which was exhibited in Paris at the Paris Salon des Independants throughout the year 1913. That same year, the first exhibition featuring primarily synchromist works by MacDonald-Wright and Russell was held in Munich, Germany. Following the synchromist exhibition in Munich, there were exhibits in both Paris and New York.
These first synchromist pieces were some of the first non-objective abstract paintings located in American art. These later became better known under the label of ‘avante-garde’. In this fashion, synchromism was the first American avant garde art movement that gained attention internationally.
Synchromism has been compared and contrasted to Orphism. Orphism denotes paintings that relate to the Greek god Orpheus, the symbol of song, the arts and the lyre. Though Orphism is rooted in cubism, this movement moved toward a lyrical abstraction that was more pure, in the sense that this form of painting was about synthesizing a sensation of bright colors.
Though there is little doubt that Orphism was an influence to later Synchromism, Synchromists would reason that it is a completely unique art form. As Stanton MacDonald-Wright said, “synchromism hasn’t anything to do with orphism and anyone who has read the first catalogue of synchromism; would notice that we poked fun at orphism.”
A number of other American painters have been known to try out synchromism. Whether synchromism was a branch of orphism or its own unique art form, there is little doubt that the harmonious use of color and movement based composition inspired many artists and art forms. Among these artists were Andrew Dasburg, Thomas Hart Benton and Patrick Henry Bruce.
Though almost all of Thomas Hart Benton’s works centered on regionalism and murals, there was also a powerful flair of synchromism. Benton’s interest and incorporation of synchromism was due mainly from having studied with synchromism artists like Stanton MacDonald-Wright and Diego Rivera.

FERTILITY MEDICATIONS
19/09/2010 by FeedCrazy.
FERTLITY MEDICATIONS
The majority of the time when a woman is placed on Fertility medications she has some underlying problem which is preventing her from getting pregnant the traditional way. Some problems such as Ovarian Cyst, Ovarian Failure, Septate Uterus, Pelvic Adhesions or many other problems that could be causing issues within her reproductive system. And not to put it all on the female, men have issues as well, such as Low Sperm Count, Male Azoospermia, Male Oligospermia and so on and so forth.
In our case, none of those problems were an issue for us. We simply wanted to increase the chances of pregnancy since our Sperm samples were so expensive. Many Fertility medications increase how many eggs a woman produces every month from the traditional 1 egg she produces per cycle. For the purposes of this article we will talk about the two medications we used, which were Clomid 50 mg (clomiphene citrate) and Femera 5 mg.You run the risk of having multiple births when you take Fertility medications. You will increase your chances of having twins by 10%.Increased egg production is one of the benefits of taking a Fertility drug like Clomid.
How to take Clomid
My partner was directed to take Clomid 50mg on day 3-7 of her cycle. One pill is taken day 3-7 of the menstrual cycle.
What’s happens after taking Clomid?
We were told to come back into the doctor’s office on day 12 of her cycle. On day 12, the doctor performed an ultrasound to see how her follicles had grown.
What is a follicle? According to Wikipedia, Ovarian follicles are the basic units of female reproductive biology, each of which is composed of roughly spherical aggregations of cells found in the ovary. They contain a single oocyte (aka ovum or egg). These structures are periodically initiated to grow and develop, culminating in ovulation of usually a single competent oocyte in humans. These eggs/ova are only developed once every menstrual cycle (e.g. once a month in humans).
Eight follicles of various sizes were found during the ultrasound examination. The sizes ranged from 12mm to 4mm. Optimally, they want to see the follicles grow to as much as 18-20mm, by day 16, after your menstrual cycle begins. Usually follicles grow at 2mm per day.
So we were told to come back on day 16. If you do the math, her 12mm follicle should have grown to 20mm by day 16. Unfortunately, for us when we returned on that day, the follicle had “poofed” and just disappeared.
Now Clomid doesn’t work for everyone. Some complaints have been that it thins out the lining of the uterus, which needs to thicken in order to support the fertilized egg. Other complaints have been that the follicles do not grow, which happens to be what happened in our case. But most doctors would like you to at least try 6 cycles on Clomid to see if it would work.In our case, we can see that this was the wrong approach because we had tried Clomid for 2 cycles and the same thing kept happening.
We even tried injectable medication to go along with the Clomid to see if it would speed up the growth of the eggs, but that didn’t help either. The injectable we tried was Menopur. Unfortunately, it didn’t work for us. But it could work for you.

What are injectables?
Injectables are just what they sound like, you must inject yourself with whatever particular medication your doctor prescribes in order to stimulate the follicles to grow within the ovaries.
Injectable medications are very expensive, so if you’re not in a hurry to have a baby, I just suggest going with medications such as Clomid. If you don’t have fertility problems and are just trying to increase your egg production then stay away from the injectables. But that would be totally up to you.We moved on to the next medication and showed a little patience.
We did a little research and decided to move on to another Fertility Drug which I will discuss in the next article.
